Where is My Remote: A look at Touch

Preview:

Touch

Everyone in this world is connected. Even if many of us can't see it, it's there. This is the basic premise of Touch. It's a new Fox show. On Wednesday, January 25, Fox will air the preview episode and the 13-episode season for Touch will begin on Monday, March 19. It comes to us from the creators of Heroes, Crossing Jordan and Terra Nova and stars Keither Sutherland.

Plot:

Sutherland plays the widowed father, Martin Bohm, who is struggling to care for his mute and autistic son, Jake. What Martin will realize is that Jake cannot communicate through words, but numbers. He has a notebook filled with long patterns of numbers. Through the help of Arthur Teller (Danny Glover), an expert of gifted children, they both discover that the numbers that Jake writes a patterns that connect the world, the past, the future and destiny. All the answers remain with a boy who may never speak.

Characters:

Keither Sutherland as Martin Bohm: Having lost his wife during the 9/11 terrorist attacks, he has struggled to care for Jake. His son won't even allow him to touch him in the beginning.

David Mazouz as Jake Bohm: The central figure through the show, his numbers hold the key.

Danny Glover as Professor Arther Teller: He will help Martin discover the truth behind his son's numbers.

Gugu Mbatha-Raw as Clea Hopkins: A social worker who does not believe Martin is capable of raising Jake on his own.

Touch will air on Fox at 9 PM EST and move into its regular time slot on March 19, 2012 at 9 PM EST.

 My Thoughts:

I really enjoyed Touch. It was very well written. I really cared about the characters. I thought it was cool how several characters were connected in a unique way. And how everything came to a full circle by the end of the episode.  So, just based on the pilot alone, I think I could get hooked. Unfortunately, this is Fox we're talking about. This is a network that trimmed its budget so it could afford Terra Nova and even that show isn't guaranteed to return, so what chance does Touch have? I do hope Fox realizes this show is a gem and will allow it to grow.

Quick Thoughts:

The River

Months ago, I was quite skeptical of this show and thought that if it would model itself in the realm of Cannibal Holocaust, it might be successful. Well, as I watch the pilot and just how thrilling and creepy it is, I retract the previous statement. It isn't perfect, and I may grow weary of the documentary style angles, but it's still very thrilling to watch. I will never look at dolls the same way again.

A Personal Note:

For those who don't know, I lost my mother on January 19, 2012. My mother loved watching television with me. I would remember that we watched The Cosby Show, TGIF and Home Improvement when I was younger. As I became a teenager, we couldn't get enough Seinfeld. She would often tell me about the shows she loved, such as Little House on the Prairie, Bonanza and The Waltons. Towards the end, we sat down and watched all four seasons of Prison Break on Hulu. I would come home from work and see her watching shows on Netflix. Television was one of the greatest joys in her final year. She loved to laugh, she loved watching romance and enjoyed good story lines and likeable characters.

It is a very difficult time in my life and things may change with Where is My Remote, as I may not have time to review television shows as I once did before. For example, I may never watch Touch regularly, but I will continue to promote new shows and remember the old. Things may change, but my mother was a big fan of this article and she would not want me to stop. I want my readers to know, it will continue! Thank you.

In loving memory of my mother, Dorothy...(Feb. 29, 1936-Jan. 19, 2012)
