Avengers Officially Largest Superhero Midnight Opening Ever

Marvel's the Avengers has set the first of many records by officially having the largest superhero Midnight opening ever, with $18.7 million. While being 8th on the list of Midnight showings it did pass former Super Hero Midnight king, the Dark Knight.

Though remember the core audience of young adults are still in school and college so Midnight numbers are often lower in May than say June or July. The previous top Midnight holder in may was Spider-Man 3 with $10 million.

what's insane is that based on pacing compared to previous top May performers Spider-Man 3 and Iron Man 2, Avengers could rake in $280 - $320 million this weekend. Is there even enough screens for that?

Either way the Avengers looks to be living up to the hype and may be the movie of the summer and potentially the year.
