Marvel moving forward on Guardians of the Galaxy Movie

It started as rumors and whispers, now even Variety is reporting that Marvel is moving forward on a Guardians of the Galaxy film.

The movie is expected to come out May 16, 2014 and be the big tent pole movie that leads to Avengers 2.

What is not confirmed if this will be the original Guardians form the 31st century or the current incarnation, pictured above and featuring Rocket Raccoon, that were recently featured in an episode of the animated series Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes

Nicole Perlman, who came out of Disney's screenwriting program, penned a version of the script that Marvel has been high on.

Rumor has it some sort of confirmation will be announced at this year's San Diego Comic Con. Marvel has yet to comment on this.

Further confirming things, Disney recently secured trademark rights to produce an array of consumer products tied to Guardians of the Galaxy and its characters.
